Just a suggestion. Camra's new star pub in the South East London area is the Grape and Grain, Anerley Hill close to Crystal Palace station. There are also direct trains from C.P. to East Dulwich. This pub is supposed to be offering 8 real ales at a time. An 11.51 departure from B.H. would get us to C.P. at 12.56. Trains from C.P. to E.D. are at 14.00 arriving at 14.14, or 14.30 arriving at 14.44. As is say, just a suggestion, slap me down if you want to.

It's two minutes walk from Crystal Palace station (up a very steep hill, but at least it's downhill on the way back!) and has seven real ales plus Thatcher's cider on handpump. Go straight ahead as you leave the station up Ledrington Road, then continue uphill as it merges with the main road, Anerley Hill. The pub is on the left at the top of the hill by the traffic lights. Purity Pure Gold is always on, and there's a good range of other ales from all over the country. Ilkley Black (a dark mild) was on last night and was excellent. Ossett Big Red is due to go on soon, as is one of the Westerham "one hop" specials. All ales are £3.20 a pint with a 20p discount for CAMRA members on production of membership card. Unfortunately Rick & Angela, the managers, are going on holiday today so you won't see them there, but the regular barstaff are always very good.
