I've mentioned this before to others in the past about the effect that Brighton and Crawleys success will have on the rest of Sussex football in the near future.
I'm trying not to count my chickens as these things can go wrong....... but theres a fair chance we will have 2 league sides in Sussex for the first time ever next season.
Brighton will be in a brand new shiny stadium (with comfy seats, wind and rain cover, better football and decent coffee for the gliterati of the south coast). And good luck to them, its been a long time coming, its going to look mega!
Crawley will be playing league football, and attracting sides such as Oxford Utd and Bradford (oh, and Accrington and Burton Albion ) Can Crawley grow their crowd and keep it? Will the money run out? Will Steve Evans spend the whole season in the stand?
On the plus side, the overall boost in publicity to football in Sussex (I dont hold with all this East and West Sussex cobblers) will be great, which might improve the standard of players across the board, and improve crowd numbers generally. Maybe some Crawleyites will stop watching Chelsea and Palace and go to Broadfield (but I doubt it)
On the down side, if your a Brighton fan and stayed away from Windydean in the wet and cold and maybe visited your nearest non-league club instead, that aint going to happen now. Will non-league clubs across the county lose attendance because of the above? Will clubs lose sponsorship possibilities?
I guess we wont know til it happens, but those nearest to Falmer and Broadfield (Lewes, Whitehawk, Peacehaven, Bridges, Crawley Down) must surely have it in the back of their minds. Maybe Brighton and Crawley are too far up the food chain to be a problem but you do wonder......
Oh, and Man Utd v Crawley Spawny Gits!!!
