For those who don't know, BHTFC were the subject of a Ryman ClubCall interview re ground development. Details are on the Isthmian official website (www.isthmian.co.uk) on the "news" page. You need to dial in to listen.

GC is right to highlight the issue this way, and he is right that its not just Burgess Hill that are at risk. The whole issue goes back to John Prescotts desire for tons more housing in the south east. Any council will of course find any land it owns near town and show it as being available for housing. This has happened all over the place, and not just for land that councils own, sometimes suitable land that they don't own (yet). But what does need to happen is to relocate the organisations that are going to be kicked off, to somewhere else, and this is something that MSDC have been at best, poor at communicating, and at worst, purely incompetent. Theres no point in organising housing if the population doesn't have a variety of things to do, and a leisure centre that is currently under-manned, poorly organised and not cleaned properly doesn't really cover it. Maybe WE ought to be saying where we want to go.
How about next to the new cemetery!! No complaints about the floodlights then.

Have to agree 100% what GC has said and its right to point out its not only happening with BHTFC. However, looking at the town plans and the regeneration of Burgess Hill as a whole, there seems no plans for a relocation for BHTFC. Seems that the council, both Burgess Hill and Mid Sussex councils have set there sights on the town side of things and not so much the sport side of things.I think that the councils had there monies worth out of BHTFC this year with the fines and all, its about time they pulled there fingers out, sold Leylands Park to a developer, and with the proceeds, purchase land, and build us a state of the arc ground.

I wonder what the opinion of the people living behind the ground is? They have constantly moaned about the football club (which I believe would have been there a long time before most of them moved into their houses, so I am unsure why they were surprised to get light and noise polution), but if housing is built their views could potentially become worse, there could be more noise and more traffic, especially during the construction of the new houses.
I don't expect we will get any support from the local council, who would probably rather spend their time demolishing Burgess Hill to build an uneccesary new shopping centre (despite the abundance of empty units in the current one) than to support their football team. The only time they have ever shown interest in the club (to my memory) was when we were parading the league trophy in an open top bus around the town, because it suited them to share in the glory.
Whatever happens, don't expect the council to show any signs of intelligence.

When we've done well in National Cup competitions, the council say that we are the pride of the town, where have they gone!
The only way if we are to survive in the future is if the council get behind us, maybe we as a group of fans should do something to get the council to acknowledge us a a part of the town and also the future of the town. When we had these fines at the beginning of the season a few of us started a petition against the council over unfair terms but things settled down again.
I've had my say and I hope the council see sense and get behind the football club and also all the other sporting clubs in the town, without us who would want to live in Burgess Hill!

Let's hope they fill the new houses with families, with plenty of kids who play football all the time. I think we can show them to gardens play near.

I think many want the football club to stay there. It was just 2 or 3 being encouraged by a local councillor.

Is there anything the supporters can do to try and fight the cause? Better sooner rather than later when we end up with a field that needs cows removing from it before kick off!

If a decent well researched letter was written then it couldn't hurt to send it to all 3. Provided it was based on fact and was polite that is. No need to provoke them any further.
