1-0 to Bashley

Again we were not that far behind the opposition, but then they were not that good.

We had three good chances which were well saved by the bash keeper, there was also some near-misses and some close encounters of the goal kind so it was not all bad.

No offence Dave but it was good to have a proper goalie though he did not have that much to do. The defence did enough and were unlucky to get caught by a quick move and the ball coming down to the scorer who belted the ball into the net.

Mid-field spent the early part of the game trying to place the killer high long ball through, why? When we played it on the ground we looked so much better, quick passing and pace made some good opportunities.

We looked light up front with Ashley on his own and Luke running in when possible, this does not work for us Ashley is too light and in-experienced to perform this role. When Death came on at about 80 minutes we saw a different side to Ashley who as a wide man got past people and put in some good balls.

Dissapointment of the night was losing to a team only marginally better than us.

More disappointly was we continue to play narrow, when the ball went wide the whole team went over to that side of the park. We could have done some much more if we had used the width and played quick football, Pullen kept trying to get them moving and on occasions went wide in space but the ball never came out.

Overall the team put in a lot of effort we just need to get the teamwork sorted to start winning.

The last match of the season against Lymington could be a crucial game for both teams.

We have only scored 1 goal in the last 4 games and we cannot convert our chances, I think we need some shooting practice in training!

Maybe someone can convince Nicky Sullivan that he is wasting his time getting an education. Scoring 25 a season for the hillians is priority.

Sort of agree with the previous match report post but would add the following IMO points.

1) Why was our most accomplished and comfortable defender sitting on the bench when the consequence was as seen last night, huge gaps in the centre of the defence.Bashley could have been 3 up after 30 min's had they not been so useless.

2) We have in many peoples view, if the website postings are to be believed some very promising young players, where???. Without the calming influence of DS at the back all the defence managed to do last night and usually on most other occasions was to lump a high and as long as possible hoof upfield, which usually was won in the air by Bashley. The central midfield lacks a quality passer,someone with real vision to open a defense,what we in fact have is an awful lot of effort with very little end product.To be fair LD stood out last night as the only midfield player not having a mare, the only player in the team who can use both feet and can get his head up and spot the right pass is stuck out on the left,sometimes waiting ages to see the ball and usually when he does it is a hopeless high ball over the defenders head, not cleverly slotted in when possible behind the defender giving him little chance to effectively defend it.

3) I think it a bit unfair to criticise AJ, who I personally think does a very good job of holding the ball up and trying to work and unsettle defenders when, to be fair, the quality of service to the front is sometimes abysmal. He has shown he can finish very well when presented with decent service. That's about it really, not a rant just a bemused supporter who can't understand why a succesful team is tinkered with, especially the defense, which really was settling in and playing well. Come on let's have your views.

Last night must have been one of the poorest turnouts for a league game for many years. I can't remember in the last 9 years of watching the club to have under 100 for a league game (btw would have been more but I couldn't get in until halftime)
