Well, not even one song from the small travelling believers, but this made no difference to us as we went down 2-0.
I got what I wanted today Death started, Ashley Jarvis and Gedling wide trying to use pace to get forward and do the damage.
It was not that bad though we were giving it away too easily then on 40 minutes they went 1-0 up from a nothing cross from the right hand corner flag it seemed to evade everyone except at the back with three of their players running forward it ended up in the net.
Still not a disaster as we had had chances. A long shot from Luke hitting the woodwork and on about 30 minutes Lloyd running into their box headed a lovely little ball over the advancing keeper, I was on the 18 yard line and could clearly see it, the lino raised his flag after Leatherhead shouted, he was not offside and that's not the yellow haze blurring my vision.
It got worse when on respotting the ball after the first goal we lost the ball in midfield from the kickoff then one of them ran down the pitch and put in a neat pass into the path of a second attacker who put it in the back of the net. Too easy.
At half time we were passing the hut and could hear Gary shouting at them, amongst the vitrial was one fact. "Boys against Men". We were nieve but if you look at the team this should be expected, a very young team today.
On about 80 minutes Ashley did some excellent work to get down the left wing and put in a beautiful cross which McDowell headed just wide.
I know we all felt disappointed with the performance but this was not on the scale of Whytleafe or Walton. Leatherhead only managed 4 shots, 2 well saved by Sullivan.
Leatherhead were lucky, most decisions went their way and on about 75 minutes Death was taken out by a crunching knee-high kick by their number 7, Death didn't even have the ball. This was in front of the ref and close to the lino. Yellow card was unbelievable, the ref should be ashamed of this decision if not his bias through the game.
In the second half they were content to defend their lead with breaks forward. We did get forward and had opportunities to score.
Soutar was a spectator as he did not even make it onto the bench this time.
No sign of Andre or Mitchell Day, Leo is still recovering from his injury.
Matten, McDowell and Greatwich all got to come on for part of the game.
I still believe we are safe this year and with such a young squad can only get better. If Gary can get experienced players into the team then we can be hopeful for next season. I'm not talking of loads of new faces, 2 older heads is more than enough to give us some bite.
Keep them going Gary.
