Went into the game looking for a draw to bring a big away support to the park, not my idea of a good strategy but what do I know about football.
Andre did make 5-6 excellent saves. The first goal he went down but the ball just got past him. The second was a result of his all to often reluctance to come out quickly and commit to coming out. he stopped short and the ball was clinically lobbed. 2 nil at half time.
Team:
Andre
Hinshelwood
Fogden
Tom
Matten
Gricey
Watts
Bye
Hill
Budge
Jarvis
In the opening 30 minutes Stones came at us at every opportunity, after the goal we appeared to regroup and look like winning the occasional ball. Still no real urge to get involved. If I did not know better it would look like we were defending a 1-0 defeat.
In the first half we had a couple of through balls played into space but were all flagged offside when they were not even close. One perfect lob of the final defender by Budge which Ashley ran through to be flagged offside after running past the defender. Ref was not too bad not biased though was favoring the home side, with 388 of them and 12 of us who can blaim him!
Up front they tried but the offsides were really sapping on ashley.
Owen Hill took a knock and was subbed by Lloyd Cotton who looked eager to get involved. Lloyd was a breath of fresh air to the team he ran around, tackled relentlessly and really made himself a nuicance.
We looked poor down the right side Watts, still in midfield, is out of position and only did good work when playing further back. hinshlewood why?
Our goal came near the end. Joyce and Gedling on we started to throw people forward and in a goal mouth melley the keeper dropped the ball and several hillians rushed and I think it was Budge (official site gives it to him) who bundled it into the net. We did have a shout in the first half when their keeper stepped back and it looked like he'd gone back over the line, from the 18 yard line it looked close, but no chance of a decision from the ref.
We got close to scoring a couple of times later on and on the whole game performance would have been lucky to have got the draw.
If the team who played at Tooting had turned up we could have won this game.
Tom was the proverbial pillar of strength at the back, Ashley and Budge were creating some chances.
Best things:
Lloyd in the first team;
When we were trying to go forward we looked like we could get a goal;
There were some reasonable individual performances.
Concentrating on the league again this year!
