Cool. Hanging on to 6th place for now (even though we have played more games than most).

Went to Chatham expecting a 0-0 draw based on Chathams stats, came away disappointed that it ended 1-1.
With Sean and Luke upfront I looked forward to seeing a resumption of the attack from the mid-week game. This did not materialise.
Mid-field did enough and for once were keeping the ball down but long grass and a bumpy pitch did not help at all.
Defence should be really disappointed with the Chatham goal. Defence started really poorly, playing the ball around in defence with no accuracy, getting in each others way, etc, etc. After 15-20 minutes they settled down to the normal effiecient unit they have shown over the last few weeks. Andre was, with excpetion below, magnificent he started to come out to the edge of his box and continues to stop some cracking shots as well as cutting out the high crosses.
The Chatham goal came from the right side, ball crossed on the ground from close to the sideline, along the 6 yards line. Andre stood on the goal line, stepped forward then went back, and watched it go across him, after a little bit of inand out it was blastered into the net, I believe if he'd committed himself there would have been no goal.
In the last few rantings I appear to be singling Andre out, but when a goalie makes a mistake the consequences are visible to all. This is not personal. Andre is young, keen and a great shot stopper and crosses catcher. So what's the problem? Andre lacks experience and being young needs coaching. If the fans can see his failings; not coming out with confidence then so should the coaching team. What Andre needs is someone to work with him to identify what the issues are and then put in place training to sort this out. Coaching staff get out of your box, stand on the side by the 18 yard line and see what we see. The experienced players need to let Andre know whats expected of him; in a positive way in training not shouting abuse in a game. Andre, your better than you think, believe in yourself and have the confidence in your own decisions to come out and be the sweeper, cut out the problem before it's too late and more importantly than anything when you come out come out with conviction. Burgess Hill for many years have had great goalies with Richard and Pat setting the standard which we expect of you; go for it Andre.
What was obvious from the game was that Sean, Owen and Joe are not fit, Joe and Owen should have been substituted at half time and Sean moved back into the mid-field.
Actually it wasn't a good game of football but there were good points.
Defence were not swamped, after the initial wobble, with everyone playing solidly.
With some tired legs in mid-field they mostly held their own.
Attack did have an edge and when Ashley came on with pace looked like we could get a result. We had our chances.

Great report T.O.M. it's good to get a report like this when you can't make it, as apposed to the summary in the mid sussex times (no disrespect, great paper!).
Good to hear Grice has been playing up front. I have wanted this for a while as his supply hasn't been great but his heading and holding of the ball seem to have been good (based on the 2 matches I have seen this year btw). It may not always be the best move, but it's good to hear that GC is reacting to some of our weaknesses. I might have to take back my criticisms of him at this rate!
