We dominated the first 25 minutes but didn't really test their keeper. They then started to get into the game and scored 2 mins before half time. After pushing for the equaliser in the second half the inevitable happened and they scored another late in the game. Considering the pitch conditions both sides managed to play some decent football. The pitch is in desperate need of some water and unless the supply at the club is metered i can't see why the sprinklers weren't used to soften it up a bit. Overall it wasn't a bad performance but we do need to get players up quicker to support Jarvis. I get the impression that the younger players in particular are very restricted by the bench in how far they can push up. It would seem that they are given much more freedom when the boss is away. After many years we have finally found a replacement for Mick Farmer with Gainsford winning everything in the air - a very good signing. Overall we have a promising squad of players who like to play football on the ground. We just need to be a bit more adventurous.

:-*have to agree with you there Sponge. I think if we had another decent player upfront with Jarvis, im sure that Jarvis will become the new Stevie Harper Top of my list would be Lee Farrell of Lewes. He's quick and likes running at defenders. He must be pissed off with Steve King for being restricted to substitute appearances.

Personally I think Ashley Jarvis would play quite a good Nicky Sullivan type role (a great player who doesn't get mentioned much any more). He's fast and a good ball winner, as was Nicky. I always say this (and this is only my opinion) but I always like to see a big, strong tall player up front alongside a fast player with ball control. This allows the big forward to hold the ball for the pacey player to run onto. It's not the only option, but it does work quite well. Obviously when I suggest the big strong player I don't mean someone so big they can't run anywhere!
I often see either 2 tall strong players or 2 fast pacey players up front together which doesn't ever look like it works that well (except when it was Nicky Sullivan with Steve Harper!)
