Good to see that a team this high up in the football pyramid (relatively speaking) and in times with such an abundance of technology requires you to walk all the way to the front door of the football ground to discover the match has been cancelled.
A message on the answerphone wouldn't have hurt. We managed it when we were in the Sussex County League. Too big for that now eh? Hope the away supporters were privvy to more information than we were.

I always look at the road - they tend to put the traffic cones out around midday, and if they aren't there, I assume the game is off. Ususally works. Unless of course it is simply that some f***wit has forgotten to put the cones out.
About as high-tec as it gets here isn't it ?

Unfortunately I live in Haywards Heath now, and after several attempts to ring the club took the train to Wivelsfield and walked down before finding it was off.
I used to be able to see the lights from my bedroom window when I lived in Burgess Hill!
I assume none of the Walton fans travelled down to discover a shut ground! I hope not for their sake.

Even if the game had gone ahead i just couldn't be arsed to go. I'm just totally bored with the whole Burgess Hill thing. On new years day i watched Lewes V Eastbourne Borough and what a change to watch players with a good first touch, keeping their shape and passing to their own players. Although not a classic Eastbourne impressed me and showed how far they have progressed since we used to play them in the county league. It just made a change from watching 5 foot nothing teenagers scurrying around like headless chickens. I was one of the 10 ? supporters who went to Dover to see us played off the park, and at the end just couldn't care less that we had lost. A few weeks ago we were looking down at YM and Hastings but look at us now. GC gets rid of a player just as a shitload of suspensions are about to kick in, not for the first time !
RWE. your experiance on Saturday is just another example of how badly this club is run. This club is going nowhere and i've had enough of wasting time and money supporting it.
Rant over !

Er..what? Have I slipped into an alternative universe? Has somebody put something the mince pies?
Worked all over xmas so didnt see the mess against Dover and YMCA which sounds very poor, but the last game I saw was against leatherhead which was great stuff.
Yes, Burgess Hills "information centre" has never been adequate, and if you live out of town must be a real pain in the butt. The website (which is better) still strains to keep up with pigeon post or men lighting signal torches on big hills, but its the only show in town.
The comments about the lack of matchday info are quite right, Ive never understood why there isnt a proper fixture board outside. How can people with kids plan when the're coming to watch?
As for headless chickens, they crop up anywhere - who watched Reading/West Ham? At least we only play £7 for the privilege.

few weeks ago i know but releasing budge was just bad timing. as for headless chickens that was a bit harsh, the boys have played some good football going forward but we just seem to be so lightweight. As for the lack of information, this isn't the first time it's happened and shows that the club should be run by a commitee with more people involved.

Looking at the weather on Sat morning /Friday evening i always knew the game was in doubt. Having spoken earlier on to the Car Park Manager (Butch) he told me he would phone me back after the pitch inspection. However i phoned Butch back just before mid-day who duly informed me the game was called off. Shortly after this conversation i did recieve a text message stating the game had been called off. I dont know who sent the text message out, but id for 1 would like to thank them for the message recived about this game and the Godalming game the previous week. However i do think that a board/answer phone message would have been better just like we use to do in the County League days...............Come on Hill it seems in certain areas we are taking 1 step foward and about 5 steps back. Once again thanxs whoever sent a text message to myself over the past few weeks to inform of the cancellation, however answer phone for many or the board outside would be most welcome ... thanxs.

We rang 3 times. 1 time the phone just went instantly dead, the other 2 times were told their mail box was over it's size limit and that was it. I realise it was in doubt, but as I say, it doesn't excuse the lack of info.
In my opinion it wouldn't take a lot of effort to retain the 30-50 regular BHTFC supporters from the last 10 years or so, and to up our average gate to closer to 500. In a town with a population of (I think) 40,000 a gate of 500 would be achievable by involving people in the club, putting fixtures up in the town centre, informing people whether games are on or off, but none of these simple things are attempted, and sure enough the crowds are falling away. I remember before I started coming to the club around 11 or 12 years ago, my family had no idea BHTFC even had a football club, and I would imagine there is a vast percentage of the population of Burgess Hill that don't realise there is a football club to do this day, or don't realise just how high up the league pyramid we are. No one is asking for major expensive steps to increase support. It could be done for relatively little or even free, and that has got to be a profitable move.

I agree. Bigger crowds - good for everything! I bet the new bar would be interested in more business - so maybe ask Eddie his thoughts.

It's all very negative on here. (luckily) We don't choose who we support : that just happens. So ........ get behind it. It's a great adventure. Not much will improve but moaning. Eat Football ... Sleep Football ... Drink Beer
